Hallo Nicole,
“Ich komme aus den USA und ich wohne in der Schweiz.”
Just like the US, Switzerland is a special case because it is one of the few countries which have to take a feminine article. The feminine article is “die”, but after a location with “in”, it changes to “der”. It is called “der Dativ”, the dative case. You will learn about it in steps 9 and 10.
Viele Grüße, bis bald,
Juliane

Ich komme aus den USA aber ich wohne in Regensburg.
Juliane Klingenberg Nery2018-01-07 at 22:51
Super, just pay attention to the comma in front of aber.
Ich komme aus den USA, aber ich wohne in Regensburg.
Emily_Babbelhund2018-01-08 at 11:33
OK, thank you! 🙂
I have a very hard time knowing when/where commas are needed – it seems very different from English.

Gut: Ich komme aus den USA (…thanks to Wayne’s earlier input and your response). Is/are either or both of these correct, however?: 1. Ich wohne in Plymouth, Michigan. 2. Ich wohne in Michigan. Danke, Juliane.
Juliane Klingenberg Nery2017-12-10 at 19:57
Hallo Richard, ja, das ist korrekt.
US states and cities usually don’t have any article, so you can use only the preposition:
Ich wohne in Plymouth. / Ich komme aus Plymouth.
Ich wohne in Michigan. / Ich komme aus Michigan.
Bis bald!

Hallo,
Ich komme aus Türkei. Ich wohne in Berlin
Juliane Klingenberg Nery2017-12-04 at 22:37
Hi Ömer,
on day 64, you will learn that, actually “Türkei” is one of the few countries which have to be used with an article. It is feminine, “die Türkei“. And in this construction, you have to say “Ich komme aus der Türkei” (It’s the “dative case” which you will learn about, where die becomes der 🙂 )
Bis bald,
Juliane

Hallo Wayne,
on day 64, you will learn that it has to be “Ich komme aus den USA.” That’s a special case because “die USA” is plural.
Bis dann,
Juliane

Super! Just pay attention to “wohne”. It is a verb, that’s why it needs to start with a small letter. Only nouns, people, places are capitalised.
