Berliner Radiosender – Berlin radio stations

Listening to German radio stations is a great way to get familiarized with the sounds of the language, even if you do not understand everything. Here is a list of some Berlin radio stations that you can listen to online.

      Hallo Yojna,

do you mean they speak English on the radio? Which ones? Everytime I open the radio stations, I hear them speak in German. But we do have a lot of English-speaking songs on the radio. Is that what you mean?

This is a great idea… I mean, I am learning german and listening to Berlin stations is a good way to figure out how they are, I love rock music, I like Rammstein and Eisbrecher, I think that the way they sing plus those really good rythmes, guitars and drums are Wuuunderbar!!! ja… Ich liebe deustchland rock musik!!!! (It is correct in that way?)

    • Juliane Klingenberg Nery2018-06-06 at 10:16

      Hi Salazar,

yes, that’s great. Take a look at this one:
I don’t know it, but it looks like there is only German rock music.

You can say “Ich liebe deutsche Rockmusik.” 🙂

      Bis bald,

        Danke Juliane!

    Very clever idea!

I live in Bayern for part of the year and when I drive across Germany towards France, I always like to hear how the accents change on the radio between the different regions.  Once I get out of Bayern I have a harder time understanding as to me Bayerische is normal and the others sound funny.  Probably Germans from the rest of Germany wouldn’t agree.  😉

    • Juliane Klingenberg Nery2018-01-06 at 22:28

Haha, that is interesting. So far, I have only heard from people having trouble understanding the Bavarian dialect. But it’s great if you can understand them well. If you live there, this is what is most important.

One of the projects I have for the future is a part of the website dedicated to the different German dialects – I think I might be able to do this… maybe by the end of next year. 🙂

      Viele Grüße,

That would be interesting!  At my Fremdspracheschule in Regensburg, one teacher taught an optional class on Bavarian dialect, complete with beer and Leberkäse.  You can guess that it was very popular!

I should clarify that I understand the Bavarian ACCENT better, but if people are speaking in DIALECT (echt Bayerische) it is very hard if not impossible to understand.  I just nod and smile a lot!  🙂  On the other hand, some words that I have learned just from speaking are Bavarian and I don’t realise they aren’t standard German.  Then my colleagues from Stuttgart think it is hilarious to hear me use them.  You can’t win!

          Servus Emily, 🙂

yes, cool, I could actually try to get some people from different regions to teach some mini-courses on their dialect, teaching some basic pronunciation and some typical words. – I wrote “by the end of next year”, but I actually meant “this year”. 🙂 Let’s see!

          Bis bald!

all of them have English songs and most of the songs are made in the US. Is there any “all-day” news radio station you can recommend?

Everything sounds really strange. I’m trying to make out some words though. Hopefully, I can follow conversations soon.

    • Juliane Klingenberg Nery2017-09-15 at 10:39

Don’t worry, in a while, you will start to be able to distinguish the words and then it will become easier to understand what they are saying. Even though you don’t understand them yet, it is a good idea to listen to the radio from time to time to get a better feeling to what the language sounds like.

  • Michael2017-07-22 at 21:59

Here is a great start, too:

Many stations to choose from there. There’s also a Ling Q channel in which the speech is slower.

    • Juliane Klingenberg Nery2017-07-23 at 15:32

      Hallo Michael,

thanks for sharing that site. The radio station „B5“ is from Munich, and when I just listened to it, I noticed a very slight Bavarian accent. If you live in Germany, depending on the „Bundesland“ (region), you can select the stations with are most relevant to you. If you are in Bavaria, then it’s good to listen to Bavarian radio stations. That will help you understand people there. On this site, you can chose by region:
